Static Authentication vs Dynamic Authentication
Not all NFC implementations provide the same level of security.
Basic NFC tags simply store information. These can be faked.
Advanced secure NFC chips perform cryptographic authentication. This is what our NFC authentication system uses.
This distinction is extremely important.
Static authentication works similarly to a QR code. The chip contains information that can be read directly.
Dynamic authentication is considerably more sophisticated.
Instead of revealing the same information every time, our secure chips generate unique cryptographic responses whenever they are scanned. Our authentication server verifies these responses using secret cryptographic keys that never leave the secure hardware.
Because each authentication session is unique, cloning becomes impossible. If you try to revisit the verification URL it is not valid. You must physically scan the chip to receive a new URL.
This makes reproducing the secure cryptographic identity of one of our NFC chips impossible.
